Document verification is a common phenomenon as far as humans are concerned. They are bound to verify their documents in every walk of life be it a new birth, marriage, court proceedings, employment purpose, passport or any new step in their life journey. This can effectively be done via blockchain technology. Today, document verification is no more strenuous and immune to faulty representations via blockchain technology. Under blockchain technology, the documents to be verified are set on a distributed ledger. It is not the digital copy rather a cryptographic copy that is stored on the blockchain network.


While we travel from one county to another, passport works as a document which verifies our identity. And visa works as a permission to enter that country. But the method that immigration officer uses takes huge time and there has a chance that the passport is fake. Even it is fake, it takes a lot of time to identify its fakeness.

It all happens because our Machine-Readable Passport (MRP) has some limitations like identity page encoded in optical character recognition format. So, it is easily possible for a hacker to crack that info and make a fake document or change any information from server where all the data are stored. As a result, privacy issues remain on Machine-Readable Passport.


Nowadays Blockchain technology also finds its applicability in document verification processes. A digital certificate considering blockchain technology could address the above issue. The process is described bellow.

  • Document verification on blockchain technology eliminates the third party thus limiting the cost of transaction on the network. This essentially saves cost.
  • Passports or Digital Certificates are placed on a distributed ledger so that people can have access to information anytime, anywhere. Under blockchain, the documents are securely placed that only authorized person can access using their private keys.
  • Blockchain technology stores data in a form that cannot be altered. This is done through cryptography which involves encryption of data using a hash function. So, data becomes unalterable. It is practically impossible to hack.
  • There will be no scalability issue anymore as transaction time taken could be as quick as few seconds. In this manner, Documents verified on the blockchain allows quick delivery of service.


Blockchain is a very effective technology for solving various problems. And our Passport verification problems can be resolve easily. Even in future its uses will increase.
